Change-Your-Life Beauty Tip: How to Pull Off Dark Lipstick When You Have Thin Lips

Where my ladies with thin lips at? [Raises hand.] Dark lipstick is all the rage at the moment, but for those of us with not-so-full smackers, it's a trend that seems a little...iffy. I mean, no one wants to draw attention to the smallness of her lips, and dark lipstick not only is eye-catching, but it makes lips seem to shrink even more. No bueno. That's why I turned to makeup artist Rebecca Restrepo of Elizabeth Arden—the brand just came out with a whole new line of 40 new gorgeous lipstick shades called the Beautiful Color Collection, including some stunning deep hues, so I figured she'd have some advice.

The first, she says, "Use a color that is your version of dark, not necessarily an exact match of what's on trend." What that means? You can go darker than you might usually, just not all the way to black cherry. One of Rebecca's compromise-y favorites: Beautiful Color Lipstick in Beauty. "It's a rich plum wine shade without being dark," she says.
The other thing you can do? Use an old-school move you've probably seen your mom do: Blot it. Rebecca says simply pressing your lips into a tissue after you apply will knock the intensity down just a bit, but the base color remains on the lips.
Two easy things to keep in mind. Any of you thin-lipped ladies feeling more empowered to try this trend now?
P.S. All you Pinterest fans take note: Elizabeth Arden has started a #PinItToGiveIt campaign to help women in the fight against cancer. For every image repinned in this Board using the hashtag #PinItToGiveIt, Elizabeth Arden will donate one eyeliner (up to 10,000 total products) to Look Good Feel Better, a public-service program dedicated to improving the self-esteem and quality of life of people undergoing treatment for cancer. So get pinning!
